Name: Sarah
Hometown: Uckfield, East Sussex
Destination: Kenya
Project type: Building Classrooms and General Teaching Assistant
Organisation: Madventurer
What were your impressions of your destination?
A beautiful country with abundant wildlife, welcoming locals and wonderful, enthusiastic, respectful children. Loads of places to see and activites to take part in.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
I never imagined myself as a builder before I went to Kenya and planned to do mostly teaching. However, I ended up getting very passionate about building the classrooms for the school and surprising myself in terms of how much I could do! The teaching was great too, the children were fantastic and I was gutted to leave them at the end of the month.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
The accommodation was very basic, but anything else would have felt wrong. The villagers were very welcoming and interested in us, and really looked after us well.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
Our crew leader Amy Yardley was fantastic and really enhanced the experience for us. She was professional at all times, but also a great amount of fun!
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
Yes, it was expensive but then can you really put a price on such a life-changing experience?
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
