Name: Susan

Hometown: Perth

Destination: Kenya

Project type: Teaching English

Organisation: i-to-i

What were your impressions of your destination?

There was no cultural shock upon arrival, that came when I got home. Nakuru, was exactly like I thought it was going to be. But nothing really prepared me to see the children and thier families living on the garbage dump and in the slums.

Was the work interesting and challenging?

Teaching English was fun and extremely rewarding, as was just being there with the children. Becoming involved in their daily lives was an eye opening experience, the challenge was to do as much as one could whilst I was there.

What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?

Extremely safe, wonderful homestay.

Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?

The staff in Nairobi were extremely efficient.

Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?

There is no doubt that I was rewarded by being at the project, but as for value for money from i-to-i, definitely not. None of the expensive outlay went to the project where I was working.

Would you recommend the project to others?

Yes
