Name: Simon
Hometown: Desborough
Destination: Uganda
Project type: Sports and health education
Organisation: Project Trust
What were your impressions of your destination?
First impressions were busy and noisy, coming from the English countryside to an African city was a shock. It seems to be at an interesting stage in its development where the modern world exists alongside the village life. Generally the whole country is filled with overwhelmingly fun and interesting people. Uganda is safe and constantly intriguing if the traveller is relaxed and sensible. There are a million and one things to do to cater for every type of person and many rewarding things to do.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
There will never be another job like it, every week was fresh, challenging and stimulating. I did everything I could have thought of and more, it seemed that life would never be boring again.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
I felt welcome all the time. It is difficult to feel comfortable some times when there is no electricity, hot water and stuff like that but that's why you go, get out of the comfort zone.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
The organisation and its staff are second to none and though they sometimes had to make odd or tough decisions I thoroughly agreed with all that they did.
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
Absolutely but there is no price that could be put on my experience
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
