Organisation:

Name: Greg
Hometown: Bath
Destination: Cambodia
Project type: Environmental Education
Organisation: VSO - Youth for Development (YfD)
What were your impressions of your destination?
Fantastic-Chaotic! Such a great spirit of resiliance in Cambodian people in often quite desperate circumstances. A raw country which gives you a reinvigorating feeling which can be chanelled into your work there and at home.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
So interesting. I worked with a couple of local organisations to develop an environmental education strategy for the next five years. I worked with fishermen and foresters, Buddhist monks and councilors, women and orphans...all of whom had something to offer their community.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
Surpassed all expectations! I ended up in a classic Khmer wooden house on stilts with a garden full of banana trees, jackfruit and coconuts! Paradise. Very comfortable too.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
Starting to sound like a super-enthusiast now but the level of planning, preparation and support that VSO offered both pre-departure and with VSO Cambodia overseas was truly outstanding!
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
It was free!! But in terms of value for time - there is nothing on this planet that I would have rather done with this year of my life!
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
