Name: Lucy
Hometown: Brisbane, Australia
Destination: China
Project type: Teaching conversational English (no grammar)
Organisation: Gap Activity Projects (now called Lattitude)
What were your impressions of your destination?
China is a whole world away from Australia... the culture, food, even fashion are completely different.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
I was at Vocational School (which was for high school kids not academic enough to get into a real high school). This was a challenge because before I went to China I thought I would be teaching the studious, intelligent stereotypes that we have here in Australia. Turns out Chinese kids are exactly the same as Aussie kids.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
I was living in a hotel which was just around the corner from my school. There was another GAPper living in the room next to me teaching at he same school. This was great because it gave us a life away from our school.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
GAP did an amazing job. I can't think of anything that they could have done to make me feel more comfortable with the challenge.
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
Absolutely... value for money - 12/10
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
