Name: James

Hometown: Newcastle

Destination: Hong Kong

Project type: Teaching English

Organisation: Gap Activity Projects (now called Lattitude)

What were your impressions of your destination?

Hong Kong has everything you want, from a Manhattan beating Skyline and shopping malls to deserted beaches and turquoise seas. I've been back many times since to see friends.

Was the work interesting and challenging?

I worked at the YMCA College on Lantau Island teaching 11-18 year olds. As well as taking my own English lessons, I taught PE and Geography and helped coach the Football and Baseball teams.

What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?

I decided on a home-stay although I could have lived in a hostel. The family were brilliant and we keep in touch regularly.

Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?

No problems. Everything was clearly explained and there was a lot of help from GAP before I left and out in Hong Kong.

Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?

Definitely. The wage I got paid from the school funded my weekends exploring Hong Kong and China as well as my travels after the teaching stint ended.

Would you recommend the project to others?

Yes
