Name: Miriam

Hometown: Evesham

Destination: Nepal

Project type: Teaching English

Organisation: Gap Activity Projects (now called Lattitude)

What were your impressions of your destination?

Nepal is fascinating, and most of it remains rural and untouched. It is not somewhere I would have felt comfortable going without the support of an organization such as GAP.

Was the work interesting and challenging?

Yes. I had full resposibility for classes, which was what I wanted, and even set exams and took English club. GAP also had placements where you can be a Teaching Assistant, which is less responsibility, if that's what you want.

What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?

I lived with a local family. It was rudimentary but definitely liveable. I loved the food and the kids in the family made me feel really welcome - kids are a definite ice-breaker.

Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?

Yes. The in-country agent was fantastic, and by the end we were having dinners with him and his family and he even gave us going-away presents. The Project Coordinator was also really helpful at every stage. Nepal is no longer a placement with GAP, due to political troubles, but I am sure other in-country agents would be just as good.

Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?

Yes.

Would you recommend the project to others?

Yes
