Name: Rav

Hometown: Cambridge

Destination: Hanoi, Vietnam

Project type: Teaching English

Organisation: i-to-i

What were your impressions of your destination?

A fantastic place with good facilities and good orientation staff

Was the work interesting and challenging?

For me yes, for most no. 90% of volunteers were placed in private schools where they weren't needed. I was never allowed to teach on my own - despite the fact I was teaching Vietnamese University students in the evenings privately - We developed relationships with our students of our own accord and were encouraged by 'i-to-i staff' to do the opposite

What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?

Accommodation was fine, but segregated from Vietnamese people – I felt like it was a bit of a bubble

Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?

Not in the slightest, they made us pay an extortionate fee, none of which went to our project; failed to respond to our complaints; and left us to use our own intiative to get anything at all from the project

Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?

No

Would you recommend the project to others?

No
