Name: Caitriona
Hometown: Ratoath, Co. Meath, Ireland
Destination: Uganda
Project type: Care Work
Organisation: Project Trust
What were your impressions of your destination?
I loved Uganda...the people are so so friendly, the landscape is so diverse and beautiful with so much to see & do in your spare time...climb a mountain, go gorilla treking, whitewater rafting, visit the national parks the list is endless!
Was the work interesting and challenging?
There was NEVER a dull moment. So many opportunities to start new projects, paint murals on walls, build a playground, plant a vegetable garden as well as teaching, playing and having fun with the kids who are always smiling :-)
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
Accommodation was basic be prepared to wake up with a lizard in your bed and cockroaches under it! Wash from a basin of cold water outside and cook on charcoal...takes nearly 2 hours to make a cup of tea but it's worth it!!
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
Couldn't put a bad word out there about Project Trust they selected us, trained us, and debriefed us when we came home. I made amazing friends with the other volunteers and PT is there if you need them but doesn't interfere with your everyday work.
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
I raised around 6,500 euro before I went and spent the most amazing year of my life in East Africa it was too unbelievable with so many experiences to describe in words.
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
