Name: Fiona
Hometown: Pattison
Destination: Lima, Peru
Project type: General teaching assistant
Organisation: Cross Cultural Solutions
What were your impressions of your destination?
A diverse, wonderful, intriguing city, full of urban areas you find in most cities and poorer areas of great community strength.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
Working at an after school project in a shanty town in the outskirts of Lima certainly had its challenges, especially when it came to use of resources and improvisational skills, but the young people I worked with were interested in everything about me and where I lived and more than willing to share their own culture with me.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
The accommodation was wonderful, warm and friendly staff always made us feel welcome, we became like one big family after a while, all the volunteers live in one big house and it is a great way to interact and make friends from across the globe.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
I was very impressed by the organisation and its staff, both local staff and staff at the Head Office, who were very helpful before the trip.
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
Absolutely and if I had the money I would do it again and visit another country with Cross Cultural Solutions in a heartbeat.
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
