Name: Jennifer
Hometown: Northumberland
Destination: Disko Island, Greenland
Project type: Expedition and science work
Organisation: BSES Expeditions
What were your impressions of your destination?
Disko was an incredibly beautiful place, surrounded by icebergs and whales, with a mixture of terrain - anything from gorse-covered mountains to surging glaciers to boggy valleys.
Was the work interesting and challenging?
We were primarily walking throughout the expedition over varied terrain, stopping for a short period to complete science work which involved transacting the land and taking soil samples. We also spent a week on a glacier which involved walking over ice and snow, avoiding crevasses, and climbing mountains.
What was your accommodation like? Did you feel comfortable and welcome at all times?
We spent the duration of the expedition in Terra Nova Hyperspace tents (3 man) which were carried on our backs between campsites. These were fairly roomy, fitting gear and people in easily.
Were you happy with the organisation and the staff that were responsible for you during your stay?
The organisation was excellent and the staff at the office were really helpful. The Leaders on the expedition were also excellent, and were very friendly.
Do you feel that you got value for money on the project?
The expedtion was definitly worth the money!
Would you recommend the project to others?
Yes
